Celebrating Successes: Texas Star Gala promises to be an unforgettable evening that is a departure from traditional fundraising programs featuring live music, dinner, CISNT awards and silent auction. Great Wolf Lodge is the home again this year for this annual event. Individuals who attend Celebrating Successes come from all walks of life across North Texas. Past attendees have included business leaders and elected officials, as well as leaders and members of community and faith-based organizations. This event grows in popularity each year, and based on last year's attendance, we anticipate to sell out again this year.

Texas State Senator Jane NelsonCelebrating Successes Honorary Chair: Texas State Senator Jane Nelson
Senator Jane Nelson is a former public school teacher who represents Senate District 12, encompassing parts of Tarrant and Denton counties. She joined the Senate in 1992 after two terms on the State Board of Education in which she led the fight to correct more than 5,000 factual errors in school textbooks.

She is a founder of adult literacy programs in her community; is a lifetime member of the PTA; and has been a longtime supporter of  Communities In Schools. She has endorsed state legislation supporting Communities In Schools and currently serves on the Communities In Schools of North Texas Advisory Council.

Judge Darlene WhittenCISNT Advocate of the Year: Denton County Court at Law Judge Darlene Whitten
The Honorable Judge Darlene Whitten is a longtime friend of Communities In Schools of North Texas. She participated in the initial community work during the mid-1990’s that resulted in bringing Communities In Schools to the North Texas area.

Over her career with the Denton County Court at Law #1, Judge Whitten has consistently directed at-risk youth in her courtroom to utilize CISNT services and programs. She was instrumental in the CISNT project to determine the presence of gangs in the north Texas area and continued her support with follow up efforts in prevention programming that continues to make a difference in the lives of at-risk youth.

Mr. Bill WalkerCISNT Lifetime Achievement: Hillwood Development (retired) Mr. Bill Walker
Mr. Bill Walkeris a long time supporter of Communities In Schools of North Texas for a number of years. His impact on the lives of at-risk students has been profound over the years. A former member of the Communities In Schools of North Texas Board of Directors and Advisory Council member, Mr. Walker has invested much of his career in making a difference throughout the community.
