CISNT students of Roanoke Elementary School, through a generous donation from Hillwood Development, recently attended the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. Hillwood, a primary underwriter of the CISNT program at Roanoke Elementary provided tickets and transportation to the event. Students were able to touch and learn about various animals. They experienced how modern technology has enhanced the milking process, they learned the importance of agriculture in our environment, and they were even able to play with younger animals in the petting zoo. The rodeo was the icing on the cake for these students. Most of them had never been to a rodeo. The lights, the sounds, the smells, the excitement of it all made it a day they will never forget. From bucking broncos, to calf roping, to bull riding, to chuckwagon races, and even a motorcycle jump over a recreation vehicle, it was an exciting afternoon for these students.

Red Ribbon Week at Hedrick ElementaryDrug Enforcement Agency Partners with CISNT for Red Ribbon Week
Lewisville, Texas -
In celebration of Red Ribbon Week, Communities In Schools of North Texas at Hedrick Elementary along with Hedrick Middle School partnered to provide our students with an extraordinary visit. The National Guard of Austin, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Lewisville High School ROTC joined us to say "NO TO DRUGS." On Monday October 25, 2004, the National Guard Helicopter landed in the field behind both schools. The Kindergartners through third grade students and staff gathered to watch the helicopter fly in and land. The National Guard Officers then met with the students and discussed WHY you need to have a clear mind to be a pilot and a soldier. They pressed on how drugs do not allow this. The kids were given a chance to walk through the helicopter. The fourth through eighth grade students met with the DEA as they exhibited the gear that they use when they are in the field confiscating drugs. They also watched an outstanding rifle drill performance given by the LHS ROTC. Finally, to complete the assembly, the students saw the helicopter take off. The children were left with an impression they will never forget.

CISNT would like to thank all that were involved in helping Hedrick Elementary and Middle Schools continue to commit to being a drug free campus.

Thank you, Cadbury Schweppes!Corporate Partners Provide School Supplies
Most of us think of school supplies in August as we prepare for student's return to classes for the fall. For many students served by Communities In Schools of North Texas, they lack the resources necessary to purchase supplies such as paper, pens, crayons, and binders throughout the year as needed to do class work.

As our name implies, Communities In Schools of North Texas relies on our Corporate Partners such as Sprint and Cadbury Schweppes, through the "giving spirit" of customers and employees that contribute school supply through promotional drives throughout the year. As students need to replenish their supplies, they are able to come to the on-site CISNT office where these supplies are stored.

Communities In Schools of North Texas values the commitment of Corporate Partners and extends our heartfelt gratitude to all those that participated in these drives, ensuring that these students will always have these basic supplies.

Fellowship Church Supports CISNT
With the change in the season, many students are in need of appropriate warmer clothing and shoes. Because of the generous donation from the members of Fellowship Church of 118 new coats, 26 new shoes, and 20 packages of new socks, students served by Communities In Schools of North Texas will be able to dress appropriately, thus allowing their attention to stay focused on their academics.

Communities In Schools of North Texas wishes to thank the members of Fellowship Church for their participation in the "Coat, Shoe and Sock" drive in October 2004. CISNT is indeed fortunate to have Fellowship Church as a partner in achieving our mission of helping students achieve academic success!
