Dallas, TX - May 11, 2007: Today, Communities In Schools of North Texas (CISNT) announced that PrimeSource Food Service Equipment donated personal computers to benefit their dropout prevention programs in Denton and Wise counties. “Many of our children do not have access to computers in their homes. This generous donation from PrimeSource FoodService Equipment will be used in our school-based dropout prevention programs as well as allowing us to provide technology for our students at home”. says Gary Henderson, CISNT Executive Director. Lewisville , TX – May 9, 2007: Each Saturday morning, over 50 children participate in the Communities In Schools of North Texas (CISNT) Connections mentoring program at Hedrick Elementary School. This past Saturday, in addition to being with the mentors they have built relationships with each week this past school year, the Greater Lewisville Kiwanis Club provided a special treat for the children. Leadership Lewisville Showcases CISNT's Talented Kids
CCA Community Action Harvest Truck visits CISNT students at Hedrick ElementaryOn Saturday, April 28th, students from Hedrick, Lakeland and Central Elementary Schools gathered to see their artwork unveiled during their Saturday Connections program. The product, the Christian Community Action Harvest Truck, was the community project of Leadership Lewisville class of 2007.  This group wanted to give students a chance to feel significant in their community by having a chance to display their artwork in a public place.  As CCA is just launching their new community garden project, the truck seemed like the perfect spot.  Now CISNT students can take pride in seeing their workmanship all around Lewisville.

Bicyle Safety RodeoNorthwest Optimist Club Benefits Communities In Schools of North Texas in Northwest ISD
Justin, TX - March 24, 2007: The Northwest Optimist Club held a Bicycle Safety Rodeo to benefit children in the community of Northwest ISD. Over 30 CISNT kids from Prairie View Elementary, Seven Hills Elementary, and Chisholm Trail Middle School attended the event. They all received free bicycle safety helmets, and two students won a bike. Representatives from the Wise County Fire Department, Roanoke Police, Fort Worth Police, MedStar, St. Peter Lutheran Church, and a BMX Stunt Team came to support this cause. Thanks to the Northwest Optimist Club for hosting this event!

Sallie Mae supports CISNT students at Denton High SchoolSallie Mae and Communities In Schools of North Texas Partner to Provide College Financial Information at Denton High School
Denton, TX - March 12, 2007: "The Sallie Mae Paying for College Bus Tour" came to Denton High School through the coordination of Communities In Schools of North Texas program. Approximately 170 students and parents received information on the steps needed to take to financially prepare to go to college. At the evening event, dinner was served during the presentation, and two scholarships were given away to two CISNT students. Thank you to Sallie Mae for being such a valuable resource for our kids and families.

Fund Established to Help LISD Family
A fund has been established through Communities In Schools of North Texas (CISNT), a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, to benefit the Cirksena family. 17-month-old Tatyanna Cirksena died suddenly on March 13. Tatyanna’s sister is a first-grade student at Indian Creek Elementary School. The family is in great financial need; funeral arrangements are pending.

Outstanding community response to family in need
The community response in support of the Vasquez family, who lost their 4 year old and 6 year old children in a fire last Friday in Lewisville, has been overwhelming. As of this afternoon, Communities In Schools of North Texas (CISNT) campus staff member at Central Elementary School, Nellie Apodaca, reports that the Vazquez family needs have been met. 250 Students in Need of Mentors
The campus staff of Communities In Schools of North Texas (CISNT) have identified 250 students in schools across Denton ISD, Northwest ISD, Lewisville ISD and Little Elm ISD that are in immediate need of a school-based Mentor. These students face significant life challenges that make success in school difficult. CISNT is calling on businesses, community organizations and faith-based organizations to help! CISNT Students Attend UNT Basketball
CISNT students enjoy a double-header basketball game at UNTStudents from the Communities In Schools of North Texas (CISNT) programs in Denton ISD, Lewisville ISD and Northwest ISD visited the UNT campus to attend two North Texas basketball games this weekend. As the result of two generous donations from Hillwood Development and the UNT Athletic Department, over 100 CISNT students attended the women’s and men’s basketball games against Arkansas-Little Rock. Flower Mound, TX – February 15, 2007: Brittany Kyer wanted to help others on her 12 th birthday so she told friends coming to her birthday party to bring donations for “Dressed To Learn” instead of presents for her. So with $118 in pocket she took Gary Henderson, Communities In Schools of North Texas (CISNT) Executive Director, shopping for clothes for children in Lewisville ISD who participate in the CISNT and Lewisville ISD PTA Dressed to Learn program. Members of GE Commercial Finance present a $15,000 check to Communities In Schools of North Texas at Central ElementaryGE Invests in Children
On Friday, January, 26, 2007, GE Commercial Finance donated $15,000 to Communities In Schools of North Texas (CISNT) for their program at Central Elementary in Lewisville. GE Volunteers presented the check to CISNT during the weekly “Breakfast Buddies” mentoring program at Central Elementary. This donation is the result of an ongoing mentoring partnership between GE Commercial Finance employees and CISNT students that began at Hedrick Elementary and expanded this year to Central Elementary. The cold weather and the unpredictable winds made for some challenging golf. We hope that our golfers have some great stories to tell of the shots they made in the face of insurmountable odds, which is much like the stories our kids tell of how they achieved success in school despite the barriers they face. “CISNT Connections” Mentoring Program Kicks Off
Students at Hedrick Elementary share with their mentorSeptember 27, 2006: The program starts at 9:00am, but the kids begin arriving at the school building by 8:15 each Saturday morning for Communities In Schools of North Texas’ Saturday Connections mentoring program. At 13 schools in Denton ISD, Lewisville ISD, Little Elm ISD, and Northwest ISD, children are excited to come to an empty school building on Saturday to spend time with their mentors. Parents love that their kids are learning life lessons. And volunteer mentors leave feeling great about the important work they’ve just accomplished. Everyone wins, it’s called MENTORING! Building the Real American Idol
The Lewisville ISD Council of PTAs along with Communities In Schools of North Texas will present the 40 developmental assets that designed to help young people grow into healthy, caring and responsible citizens. Dinner will be provided from 6:00-6:30 pm, and the program will begin at 6:45 pm. The program will be presented on Thursday, September 21 at Hedrick Elementary and Wednesday, October 18 at DeLay Middle School. Both dates will have childcare and Spanish translation. EDS and Communities In Schools of North Texas Announce Partnership
EDS & CISNT Announce PartnershipLewisville , TX – September 26, 2006: EDS announced its $20,000 contribution to Communities In Schools of North Texas to help underwrite CISNT’s dropout prevention program at Griffin Middle School in The Colony. Ms. Lora Thornton, EDS Global Community Affairs Director, presented the company’s donation at a meeting with Griffin Middle School students. EDS joins Lewisville ISD and the Texas Education Agency as the program’s financial supporters. CISNT began providing dropout prevention programming at Griffin Middle School in 2000. Cadbury Schweppes Employees Partner with CISNT
Cadbury Schweppes’ Corporate Social Responsibility Committee held its third annual School Supply Drive benefiting Communities In Schools of North Texas (CISNT) students across Denton and Wise counties. Through their generosity, Cadbury Schweppes employees ensured that students served by CISNT will be able to get the necessary school supplies when school starts next week. These students often, without the support of corporate partners like Cadbury Schweppes, would begin school without the basic necessary supplies, affecting both their ability to do their school work but even more importantly affecting their self esteem. Thank you to Cadbury Schweppes’ employees who together donated a combined 60 boxes of school supplies valued over $1,500 to CISNT.

Westside Baptist Church Responding to the Need
Westside Baptist Church backpack driveWestside Baptist Church in Lewisville responds to the need for school supplies by delivering backpacks to Communities In Schools of North Texas.  Kelly Smith-McKinney delivered over 50 back packs donated by members of Westside Baptist Church filled with school supplies to the CISNT office.  These desperately needed school supplies will be distributed to students over the next few weeks to area schools served by CISNT.  "We are deeply appreciative of the support we receive from Westside Baptist Church", states Gary Henderson, CISNT Executive Director.  'Pastor Blake, his staff and the members of Westside Baptist Church are important partners to Communities In Schools of North Texas."

Help Our Kids: CISNT School Supply Drive
Communities In Schools of North Texas (CISNT) is now accepting donations for our annual school supply drive for the start of the 2006-2007 school year. Our 2,200 students served in Denton ISD, Lewisville ISD, Little Elm ISD, and Northwest ISD, NEED school supplies to start the year off with the tools for academic success. Donations may be brought to our main office at 1597 South Edmonds Lane, Building B (in rear parking lot) or you may shop at the Lewisville Office Depot and leave your donation there for CISNT to pick up.
