The Allstate Foundation Awards $500 Grant to Communities In Schools of North Texas at Chisholm Trail Middle School in Northwest ISD

Lewisville , TX - May 16, 2006: Communities In Schools of North Texas (CISNT) has been awarded a $500 grant from The Allstate Foundation for their dropout prevention program at Chisholm Trail Middle School in Northwest ISD. Allstate agent Clay Carpenter began mentoring in the CISNT program this year and wanted to do more. So, on behalf of CISNT, Clay wrote and submitted a grant to The Allstate Foundation’s “Agency Hands in the Community” program. Competing with grant applications across the country, Mr. Carpenter’s request was awarded in recognition of his volunteer efforts in the community.

“Volunteering with Communities In Schools of North Texas is a great way to give back to the community I serve and another way to make a difference in my neighbors’ lives,” said Carpenter.

Mr. Carpenter presented the $500 check to CISNT Campus Manager Elyse Morgan after his weekly mentoring session at the school. “We have a growing need in our CISNT program here at Chisholm Trail for more mentors like Clay. He is very dedicated to the student he meets with each week for about an hour here at the school. Mentors play a significant role in the lives of our students, both academically as well as in many other ways”, states Ms. Morgan.

The CISNT program at Chisholm Trail is in its first year, and is the result in part of a three year U.S. Department of Education Mentoring grant. CISNT operates dropout prevention programs in Denton ISD, Lewisville ISD, Little Elm ISD, and Northwest ISD.

Communities In Schools of North Texas, a dropout prevention program, is a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization that has served students across Denton and Wise Counties since 1994.  The mission of Communities In Schools of North Texas is to be the proven leader in coordinating and providing community based solutions that challenge young people to overcome barriers, succeed in school and prepare for life.
