FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tena BurleyFormer University of North Texas Program Coordinator Joins Communities In Schools of North Texas
Lewisville , TX - May 18, 2006: Ms. Tena Burley, former University of North Texas College of Public Administration and Community Service (PACS) program coordinator, has joined Communities In Schools of North Texas. “In an effort to take our school-based mentoring programs in Denton ISD, Lewisville ISD, Little Elm ISD and Northwest ISD to the next level, we are pleased to add Ms. Burley’s experience to our team”, said Gary Henderson, CISNT Executive Director. “We have a high need for more adults to commit one hour a week to meet with a child one-on-one who is at-risk of dropping out of school to provide academic help and supportive guidance, and we know that Tena is the right person to inspire adults to do just that!”

Ms. Burley’s work at UNT included directing the American Humanics nonprofit management program and the Service-Learning program. Working with over 500 community agencies and placing over 800 students in valuable service-learning volunteer experiences during her time at UNT, Ms. Burley will be uniquely qualified to help us grow the number and depth of the volunteers who serve as Mentors with CISNT. “We have hundreds of students who need a CISNT mentor, the work Ms. Burley will help us accomplish will be very significant in their lives”, stated Mr. Henderson.

“I have been a long time supporter of the work that CISNT does in the community,” states Ms. Burley. “Hearing CIS founder Bill Millikin speak at a conference several years ago about the accomplishments of CIS organizations across the country inspired me, and working closely with the quality staff of CISNT during my time at UNT cemented my desire to be a part of this program.”

Communities In Schools of North Texas, is a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization that has served students across Denton and Wise Counties since 1994 by delivering high quality drop out prevention programs and services.
