Student Turns Birthday into a Chance to Give

Brittany Kyer with CISNT Executive Director Gary HendersonFlower Mound, TX – February 15, 2007: Brittany Kyer wanted to help others on her 12th birthday so she told friends coming to her birthday party to bring donations for “Dressed To Learn” instead of presents for her. So with $118 in pocket she took Gary Henderson, Communities In Schools of North Texas (CISNT) Executive Director, shopping for clothes for children in Lewisville ISD who participate in the CISNT and Lewisville ISD PTA Dressed to Learn program.

Dressed to Learn is a partnership between the Lewisville ISD Council of PTAs and CISNT to help provide new school clothing to students in need. Local LISD PTAs conduct new clothing drives and CISNT Campus Staff distribute the new clothing to students across the district. Brittany Kyer took the concept to a new level.

“I wanted to find a way help other students”, says Brittany. “I wonder what I can do next” were her words as she left the store.

“CISNT is proud to be a part of the Dressed to Learn partnership, it helps to meet a real need for our students. We are excited to see the impact the program is having on the lives of children across the district”, says Gary Henderson, CISNT Executive Director. “It is great to see students like Brittany take the concept and make a difference in their own way.”

The Dressed to Learn partnership between the Lewisville ISD Council of PTAs and CISNT was featured in a workshop conducted at the Texas PTA Convention in San Antonio earlier this month.

ommunities In Schools of North Texas is a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization operating school-based dropout prevention programs since 1994 across North Texas in Denton ISD, Lewisville ISD, Little Elm ISD, and Northwest ISD, bringing community resources to the benefit of students in need.
