FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Donations Needed for Supplies for Visiting Teachers from Spain

Lewisville , TX – June 28, 2007: Since 1998, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) has sponsored a Visiting Teacher program with the Spanish Ministry of Education. 210 teachers from Spain are currently teaching in 14 Texas school districts. In August, Lewisville ISD will be receiving 8 visiting teachers from Spain through this program.

Communities In Schools of North Texas (CISNT), The Greater Lewisville Chamber of Commerce Education Committee and The Lewisville Education Foundation want to welcome the 8 teachers from Spain coming to Lewisville ISD by hosting a “donations for teacher supplies” drive. Spanish teachers participating in this program are exceptional teachers that TEA trains and certifies prior to arriving in Texas; however, these teachers unfortunately cannot bring their classroom supplies to Texas with them due to travel limitations. We want to welcome these teachers with new classroom supplies.

Donations to benefit the “Supplies for Visiting Teachers from Spain” fund may be made to:
CISNT – Supplies for Visiting Teachers from Spain
P.O. Box 295543
Lewisville, TX 75029-5543

Donations to this fund will be used to purchase teacher supplies including (but not limited to): 1’ x 1’ white boards, markers and erasers, file folders, class sets of scissors and rulers, class sets of Spanish/English dictionaries, poster boards, construction paper.

Teachers participating in the TEA Visiting Teacher program are assigned to elementary, middle and high schools. They teach bilingual, traditional and dual language immersion and Spanish as a Second/Foreign Language, including Spanish for Spanish speakers. For more information about the TEA Visiting Teachers from Spain Initiative, contact Dr. Lezley Lewis at (469) 446-1554 or Rhonda Godbey at (469) 576-2303.
