CISNT Students Attend UNT Basketball

CISNT students enjoy a double-header basketball game at UNTStudents from the Communities In Schools of North Texas (CISNT) programs in Denton ISD, Lewisville ISD and Northwest ISD visited the UNT campus to attend two North Texas basketball games this weekend. As the result of two generous donations from Hillwood Development and the UNT Athletic Department, over 100 CISNT students attended the women’s and men’s basketball games against Arkansas-Little Rock. More importantly, they visited a college campus.

“This is a great opportunity for our students to experience a trip to a college”, says CISNT Program Director, Brian McCauley. “We want our students to succeed in school, but we also want to plant a seed in them about attending college. It really helps our campus staff to have this conversation with their students when they have shared the experience of visiting a college campus.”

CISNT dropout prevention programs are free of charge to all students. CISNT campus staff partner with school staff to bring community resources to students who are at-risk of dropping out of school. CISNT programs begin in elementary school and are targeted to follow the students through middle school and high school.

“Due to financial limitations, we are not currently able to place CISNT campus staff in every north Texas school in need of a CISNT program”, reports Gary Henderson, CISNT Executive Director. “We are deeply grateful when community-minded organizations like Hillwood Development and UNT step forward to help our children.”

Communities In Schools of North Texas is a 501(c)3 non profit organization that has been providing dropout prevention services in Denton and Wise counties since 1994. To learn more about CISNT visit www.CISNT.org or call (972) 436-6377.
